Megan Rapinoe says that she doesn't expect to be ready for the opening match to the 2016 Olympic games on August 3rd against New Zealand.
The United States Women's national team midfield star hasn't played a competitive game since October 25, after tearing her ACL in her right knee on December 4th. After Rapinoe returned to full-contact training, she was named to the 18 women squad for the Olympics - but a pulled calf held her back.
"No, I don't think that's my expectation," Rapinoe told Goal.com "Looking maybe toward the end of the group stage and then looking into the knockout stagr would be more off a relistic time for me, and I think [Ellis] feels the same way."
Coach Jill Ellis spoke about "building" Rapinoe minutes, much like she treated Alex Morgan who was dealing with a minor knee injury. The Olympic roster contains 18 players as the World Cup selections include 23, which gives US women's coach Jill Ellis crucial decisions to make while finalizing team sheets for the 2016 Olympic games.
