The reigning MLS MVP, Sebastian Giovinco put on yet another superb performance on Saturday night, scoring a hat-trick as Toronto FC cruised to a 4-1 win over the New England Revolution at BMO Field.
The former Juventus striker was almost unbeatable throughout the tenure, as Toronto closed the gap between them and Eastern Conference leaders New York City FC.
Giovinco's first goal was a beauty, struck with the outside of his boot. A blocked shot came right to his feet and his quick strike left the goalkeeper no time to react, flying into the bottom left-hand corner.
His second goal was a nothing short of extravagant. After dribbling the ball to the top of the 18-yard box, he created enough space to release a spectacular curling effort, beating the goalkeeper and landing in the top right corner.
The Italian striker completed his hat-trick by converting a penalty: striking the ball with great power into the left side of the goal. New England Revolution goalkeeper, Bobby Shuttleworth won't be to happy to watch the replays, as he got a hand on the shot, only to guide it into the net.
In the 88th minute, Teal Bunbury scored a consolation goal for the Revolution and Jozy Altidore closed out the game by scoring the fourth and final goal for Toronto in injury time.
With today's performance, Giovinco leads the MLS race to the golden boot with 15 goals, beating David Villa of New York City FC.
Thee is also a possibility of Giovinco winning back-to-back MVP titles after a stunning campaign with Toronto FC last season.
However, there will be other contenders such as Ignacio Piatti of the Montreal Impact and David Villa of NYCFC.
Surely Giovinco has a decent shot, displaying consistency in his performances all season long, including today, putting the Toronto FC on his back and carry them past the New England Revolution.
